You could not get much more of an active pose than this. This man was actually posing for me, only quickly of course, as there was much work to be done. A good theme for a Tueday I thought.
Eine bessere Pose kann man sich garnicht wünschen. Dieser Mann stand mir Modell, ganz kurz natürlich nur, da noch sehr viel zu tun war. Ein gutes Thema für einen Dienstag, dachte ich mir.

I am always amused by the sight of workmen in an especially trendy part of town. They seem to be quite unimpressed by the fashionable crowd, the expensive coffee shops, the arrogant looking sales personnel in the trendy shops, etc. They just do their job and probably tell their mates (friends) in the evening, that all people seem to have gone completely mad.
Der Anblick von Handwerkern in einem besonders schicken „In-Stadtteil“ amüsiert mich immer irgendwie. Sie scheinen völlig unbeeindruckt von all den modischen Leuten, den teuren coffee shops, dem arrogant dreinblickenden Personal in den hippen Läden, etc. Sie machen einfach ihre Arbeit und erzählen wahrscheinlich abends dann ihren Freunden daß es scheint als ob alle Leute nun endgültig komplett verrückt geworden sind.
The Boxer

When walking the streets of Berlin on this Sunday, I noticed this young man sitting outside some Kebab House. For me he looked like a boxer…. I did not have the heart to approach him and ask:“ Excuse me Sir are you a boxer?“, so I just took a sketch along and thought while painting that he was.
Als ich am heutigen Sonntag so durch die Straßen Berlins spazierte, fiel mir dieser junge Mann auf, der vor einem Döner Imbiss draußen saß. Er sah für mich wie ein Boxer aus ,… ich traute mich jedoch nicht auf ihn zuzugehen und zu fragen: „Entschuldigen Sie, sind Sie zufällig Boxer?“ So habe ich nur eine Skizze gemacht und mir während des Malens gedacht, er wäre einer.
Saturday Evening in July

There is always something very peaceful to my mind about a Saturday evening, when the sun sets, the streets are empty before the Saturday night crowds fill them again in a few hours, it is something magical and mystical at the same time.
Der Samstagabend hat für mich immer etwas sehr friedliches, wenn die Sonne untergeht, die Straßen leer sind bevor die Nachtschwärmer sie in ein paar Stunden wieder füllen, die Stimmung eines Samstagabends ist zugleich magisch und mystisch.

Life can be quite stressful these days for all those busloads of tourist being poured out over the Museumsinsel, so many museums to choose from, so many pleasure boats, so many street musicians and and and…… I think I wait till autumn till I come here again, this young lady took a rest from it all, besides the trodden path, a perfect motif to paint for me. Have a wonderful weekend !
Leben kann ganz schön streßig sein dieser Tage für die Busladungen von Touristen, die über die Museuminsel „ausgekippt“ werden, die Qual der Wahl bei so vielen Museen, so viele Ausflugsdampfer, so viele Straßenmusiker und und und…. Ich glaube, ich warte bis zum Herbst, bis ich wieder hierher komme. Diese junge Dame gönnt sich eine Pause von dem ganzen Trubel, ab der übervölkerten Wege, ein perfektes Motiv für mich zum malen. Schönes Wochenende!

The Gorki Theatre

I painted two blog paintings today, but actually they are one to me, only two sides of a coin if you like. The first one is the front of the Gorki Theatre, seen through an alley of trees it seems to be like a set from a play, the second painting shows the rear side of the theatre, the stage door, a young man sits there. To paint is actually like day dreaming, I paint those images I see and then they become a dream to me while painting, is this young man a poet, waiting for the director of the theatre to show him the script of a new play ? I know the theatres are closed over the summer, but I still had this daydream. And that´s what dreams are for, to defy reality.
Ich habe heute zwei blog paintings gemalt, aber eigentlich sind sie eines für mich, zwei Seiten einer Münze sozusagen. Das erste ist die Vorderseite des Gorki Theaters durch eine Baumallee gesehen, es wirkt fast wie das Bühenbild für ein Stück. Das zweite Bild zeigt die Rückseite des Theaters, den Bühneneingang, ein junger Mann sitzt dort. Zu malen ist eigentlich wie tagträumen, ich male diese Eindrücke wie ich sie gesehen habe und dabei werden sie für mich zu Träumen. Ist dieser junge Mann vielleicht ein Schriftsteller, der auf den Intendanten des Theaters wartet um ihm das Manuskript zu seinem neuesten Stück zu zeigen? Ich weiß, die Theater haben jetzt Sommerpause, aber trotzdem hatte ich diesen Tagtraum. Und das ist es doch wozu es Träume gibt, um die Realität aufzuheben.

Another summer day with rain, yes and I did enjoy myself. I chose the same bridge as yesterday only the other side… it is a rather wide bridge.
Ein weiterer Sommertag mit Regen, ja, und es hat mir gefallen. Ich habe die gleiche Brücke wie gestern gewählt, nur die andere Seite … es ist eine ziemlich breite Brücke.

I love rain, especially in summer, it freshens the air and projects the most fantastic reflections on the ground.
