The Sitting

A portrait sitting is probably more a strain for the model than for the painter. After the work is done and the electric studio light simulating daylight, is switched off, there is a sense of peace in the studio, everyone relaxes, only partial light picks out a few features. The sitter relaxes, the features become more mellow. This is why I like to paint people when they are hardly aware of it, or tired people, in that state we drop our mask, and the unseen beauty that everybody bears within comes to shine. That beauty is not the official billboard beauty we are so used tp through advertisements etc., it is more an inner glowing. That is the story I wanted to tell with this picture.
Eine Portraitsitzung ist wahrscheinlich für das jeweilige Modell anstrengender als für den Maler. Nach der Sitzung wenn das elektrische Atelierlicht, das Tageslicht simuliert, ausgeschaltet worden ist entsteht eine besondere Stimmung im Atelier, alle entspannen sich, es herrscht nur noch partielles Licht vor. Das Modell entspannt sich, ihre (oder seine) Züge werden weicher. Aus diesem Grund male ich gerne Menschen wenn sie sich dessen kaum bewusst sind, oder wenn jemand müde ist, in dieser Verfassung lassen wir unsere Masken fallen und eine unsichtbare Schönheit, die jeder Mensch in sich trägt kommt zum Vorschein. Diese Schönheit ist nicht die des gängigen Ideals an das wir uns durch die Werbung gewöhnt haben, es ist mehr ein inneres Leuchten das hervortritt. Und das ist die Geschichte, die ich mit diesem Bild erzählen wollte.
